MS. MELANIN

"A servant of the Crown ought not to be placed at a disadvantage to other subjects."

My crown may tilt but it will never fall.

I most recently have gotten into beauty pageants. Being a pageant girl has always been a dream of mine growing up but that dream shattered when I was in the 4th grade. While living in Jamaica I had an accident while playing track with my cousins. One of my cousins’ tripped me on accident and I fell. I was withheld from looking in the mirror because of my appearance and my parents did not want to frighten me any more than I was already shaken up. I was rushed to the hospital where I received stitches. This left me with a permanent scar in the most obvious place. On my face below my nose.

At times I don't even remember that I have a scar because as I get older the less visible it is. Everyday I give gratitude to the plastic surgeon who did my surgery when I was rushed to the hospital. He did an amazing job. I can't begin to thank him enough.

This incident also resulted in 2 half broken teeth and a missing tooth. Being that I was only 9 years of age when it happened. It was recommended by doctors that I wait for a year or so to see if my missing tooth would grow back. It did not grow back so 4 years later I took a trip back to Jamaica and got my 2 half broken teeth repaired as well as replaced my missing tooth. Just in time for my teenage years.

I was now able to smile again as I continued through high school. Thanks to the dentist who fixed my teeth. The smile that was taken away from me was now new and refreshed. Till this day I don't smile a lot. I know you've all been curious why. Well there you have it, this is the back story.

After years of my family and friends telling me I should model. At 5’5, I am way to short to become a runway model so I decided to embark on this pageant journey as an alternative and to fulfill my childhood dream. That decision has paid off and I’ve since been selected as an official delegate to represent my home town in the 2019 Miss Florida USA beauty pageant as well as the Ms. Florida Pageant. I also received inquiries to participate in the Ms. Florida International Pageant, among others. After careful thought I have decided to move forward with the Ms Florida Pageant as the Ms Treasure Coast Title Holder and Contestant.

I’ve always been reserved. I’ve never been one to put myself in the spotlight. The least amount of attention, the more comfortable I would feel. As I get older, I’ve learned to turn the spotlight on my dreams, my aspirations, and my happiness. I’ve learned to turn the spotlight on my goals, my ambition, and my drive. I learned to embrace the inner spotlight. The spotlight on nurturing my inner being and my soul. The spotlight on my inner beauty. I will not apologize for being me.

The #JourneyToTheCrown is officially underway and the countdown is in full effect. For once I will embrace the outer spotlight that will be place on me on May 26th as I walk across the #MsFlorida #Stage. Now that I've decided I will need your support. Here's how you can help:
